30th Jul 2024

Are you thinking about the Morganite stone for your engagement ring? You are not alone, a lot of bride choose the Morganite stone. We wanted to spill the Tea on this stone for you so that you can make an informed decision.

Background

Believe it or not, the morganite stone was only discovered in 1910. It is a pink Beryl stone and was discovered in Brazil when they opened up new mines. The dig was funded by J.P Morgan and when they discovered the stone, Tiffany took it for their catalog. They began to work with the stone and the gemologist who worked there, named it the Morganite, after J.P Morgan. The stone can be found mostly in Brazil, but is also available in Afghanistan, Namibia, Mozambique and even the United States.

Is it a good Diamond alternative.

Yes. The stone is not as hard as a diamond but has a good level of hardness being a 7.5 on the mohs scale. All gemstones including diamonds can be damaged and this includes the Morganite so care is always required with a gemstone.

The Morganite colour can be a light pink hue to orange tones. It is very popular matched with rose gold metals. Often a gemstone is worn with a mix of Diamond cluster and this is a very pretty style.

The morganite also has minimal inclusions meaning it can be a clear stone and the clarity can be very beautiful in it.

Cleaning

  • -Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals as this will destroy the stone. This goes for all stone and not just a morganite.
  • -Do not leave your morganite ring in direct sunlight. The gemstone can loose its natural pink colour with prolonged sun exposure. Do not leave it on the window and leave at home when you are visiting the beach on a sun bathing trip. While it can happen, it is very rare.
  • -Clean professionally once a year at least.
  • -Do not use a toothbrush to clean your gemstone as it will scratch the surface of the stone, causing it to look duller.
  • -Do not put your gemstone into the at home sonic cleaners.

Overall, it’s the perfect alternative to the diamond. The pink stone is romantic and perfect for a lifetime of love. It is a good stone for hardness, meaning it wont crumble when you get married.
